Choosing the Right Month to Marry

The most popular months for a wedding are, in order: June, September, August, May, October and July.  Most wedding sites and reception venues will be at a premium during these months, in terms of availability and price.  If your budget dictates a more frugal choice, select a month when the fees and rates are less expensive.  Generally, January, February and March are the best months of the year for a less expensive wedding.

Our Victorian ancestors attributed special meanings to just about everything – even the month of a wedding.  If you are undecided on when to “set the date” perhaps this list of wedding rhymes will be a helpful aid for your decision.

  • January:  Marry when the year is new, he’ll be loving, kind and true.
  • February:  When February birds do mate, you wed nor dread your fate.
  • March:  If you wed when March winds blow, joy and sorrow both you’ll know.
  • April:  Marry in April if you can, joy for maiden and for man.
  • May:  Marry in the month of May; you will surely rue the day.

Some brides schedule their weddings on the groom’s birthday.  Clever girls!  That way he will never have a good excuse for forgetting their anniversary.
