Finding the right wedding photographer is not as easy task. Your wedding is a day that you want to remember for the rest of your life. And what you want is someone who can capture that special moment and make it last forever. The art of being a photographer is being able to tell a story with that individual’s photographs. With that said, here we have some great advice on how to find the perfect wedding photographer for you.

  1. Decide on Your Style

Before deciding on a photographer, you must first decide on the style you want your pictures taken. This will help narrow down your search and make the process easier. Here are the different types of photography:
Portraiture: This style is exactly what it sounds like- portrait pictures. These are classic photographs taken with traditional poses either of the bride and groom alone, or of large groups. If you do go the portraiture route, don’t forget to get creative. Depending on the location of your wedding, use the scenery and unique geography to your advantage.  Of course a good photographer will know all of this already and take care of the various pose position ideas for you.
Documentary: Instead of posed photos, this kind of photographer is more candid. The photographer will capture people, décor, actions shots, and especially guests laughing and dancing, and having a good time.

  2. Do Your Research

Read reviews from previous customers of the photographer. Look into the photographer’s website and blogs or other forms of their work. This will give you a better idea of his or her style and what to expect out of your wedding photos. If they have other sources such as social media accounts that document their work, check those out too!

  3. Review Wedding Albums

Okay so now you’ve reviewed the photographer’s website and you like what you see! However, do keep in mind that these photos he or she have posted are the best of their work. So to get a more thorough and detailed idea of what you should expect from your investment, look at a few FULL galleries from real weddings. If you like what you see out of the full galleries, then you are one step closer to finding the right photographer for you!
Pay special attention if the pictures were taken indoors or outdoors. You want to look at how the pictures were taken and consider where your wedding will take place as well. Also look for those special moments that happen at weddings and if the photographer captures those moments on camera. Did he or she catch the groom’s eyes as he first sees his bride walking down the aisle? Are there pictures of guests in the middle of a laugh? Or emotions from the audience who are so genuinely touched by the couple’s marriage? Maintain a detailed eye when reviewing the photo galleries.

  4. Meet with Your Photographer

I can’t stress enough how crucial it is for you and your photographer to get along! Your personalities should mesh and you should get a good vibe from him or her. This also has to do with how your guests will feel with your photographer snapping pictures of them. If he or she makes them feel uncomfortable, this will be evident in the pictures. More importantly, you and your photographer should share the same vision. You should understand each other’s suggestions and communicate efficiently. This is the best way to ensure getting what you want out of your wedding photos.
