Warm Winter Wedding and Holiday Cocktail Ideas

As the colder weather approaches, it’s common for us to make classic drinks like hot chocolate, hot apple cider, and coffee to keep warm.

With the holidays coming up, many will be hosting parties, having friends and family visit, and may be having a nice night in to escape the cold. For these occasions (and most definitely not limited to), you may want to add in a little something extra to give your drink a little more of a kick.

Here are a few ideas to put a twist on a traditional hot beverage that will also put some extra holiday cheer into your wedding day.

Hot Chocolate:
Adult Hot Chocolate: It’s exactly what it sounds like! Add some peppermint schnapps to your hot chocolate for a sweet taste of mint.

Peppermint Patty: Can’t get enough of those candy canes? Put a splash of peppermint schnapps, dark crème de cacao and some crème de menthe in your hot chocolate and voila! Finish off with a touch of whip cream and shaved chocolate.

Ski Lift: Take a vacation from cold winter weather and enjoy the tropics with this crowd-pleaser. Pour peach schnapps and coconut rum into your hot chocolate, top with whip cream and shredded coconut and escape to white sandy beaches.

Spiked Three-O Mocha: Merry two classics with this one: hot chocolate and espresso. Simply add in a shot of espresso vodka and amaretto liqueur to your hot chocolate for a smooth, velvety treat.

Apple Cider:
Apple Pie Martini: An American favorite, apple pie, lends its classic flavors to a cup of cider. Combine vanilla liqueur, vodka, and cinnamon to your drink to create the ultimate holiday beverage.

Hot Cinnamon Apple Toddy: With a bourbon base, this cocktail calls for a natural sweetener (like agave nectar), cinnamon schnapps, and cinnamon stick garnish to create the taste of a cinnamon roll.

Autumn Delight: With a simple recipe, how can you go wrong? The additions of whiskey and cinnamon to a glass of apple cider add a smooth touch of something extra. Cinnamon stick and apple slice garnish optional (but encouraged!)

Indian Summer: To warm your chilly day, consider serving up an Indian summer. Add apple brandy to your cider and stir in a pinch of cinnamon and sugar for a classic combination of apples and cinnamon.

Irish Coffee: Mix coffee, some brown sugar, and a bit of Irish whiskey for a this classic favorite!

Flaming Spanish Coffee: Add a kick to your average cup of coffee with some rum and a touch of Kahlua.

Café Amore: A beautiful mix of coffee, Cognac, and your choice of garnish is sure to be a crowd favorite.

Kentucky Coffee: Don’t forget American bourbon! Mix some Wild Turkey     bourbon and sweet honey flavors to hot coffee for a warm solution to a cold     evening.

Warm Milk:

Brotherly Love: This aromatic beverage consists of gin, licor 43, and simple syrup that are mixed into steamed milk. Add nutmeg for garnish and enjoy sipping this with some delicious cookies!

Milk & Honey: This drink is easy and fast to make. Simply heat the milk slowly (to make sure it doesn’t curdle) and add in some Benedictine. This can be prepared both hot and cold so you can enjoy it all year long.

Tom and Jerry: Don’t be fooled by the sweet name of this adult beverage. Mix a beaten egg with simple syrup (or sugar), dark rum, and your choice of cognac or brandy to a hot cup of milk. Top with grated nutmeg and pair it along side a desert of your choice like apple pie.

Zen Latte: For a wonderful drink to wind down with, combine green tea liqueur with steamed milk. This is sure to help alleviate the stresses of a long day at work, holiday shopping, your in-laws, or just because.

A few extra…

Black Stripe: This drink is so simple to make that you can’t go wrong! Mix dark rum, honey, and hot water to melt away the winter chill. Garnish with a lemon twist and a cinnamon stick.

Snow Honey: The snow honey is a velvety smooth drink that combines a clover of honey, Courvoisier VSOP cognac and hot milk (or half and half). The rich cognac and warm milk will warm you up in no time.

Warm Old-Fashioned: Escape the cold by adding bourbon whiskey, Angostura bitters, sugar, club soda, to hot water. Topped with a maraschino cherry, this pairs nicely after a long day.

Hot Buttered Rum: A classic drink that is easy to make. Take a small slice of soft butter, add brown sugar and spices like cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg to a glass or mug and mix. Once this is done, pour in the rum and hot water. Stir, and you’re ready to enjoy.
