Shout Out: A Southern Soiree

Keep your eyes on Megan Gillikin of A Southern Soiree.  She’s an entrepreneur that’s raising the bar in our local event planning community.  Megan takes her job seriously, but not too seriously.  She knows how to listen, how to lead, and how to have fun. Her original ideas, mind for logistical details, and warm smile make her the real deal.  When I first met Megan, I knew she was no ordinary wedding planner.  So I asked her what differentiates A Southern Soiree from other event professionals:

“We often hear our clients say that we exceeded their expectations for the wedding day and I think this is because we genuinely listen to them when they tell us what is most important to them when it comes to their wedding day.  I always tell our clients that our weddings are the opposite of “cookie cutter” events.  We work hard to make each event special and personalized according to the couple’s wishes.  One weekend we may be working out a down-home bbq wedding out on a farm, the next weekend we may be at a five star hotel with a six course meal and a 10 piece band.”

Melissa Gardner got married on May 14th, 2011.  She had this to say about Megan,

“Megan was wonderful to work with while planning our wedding. She was with me every step of the way, offering her expert opinion on vendors, decor ideas, etiquette and, importantly, budget. As a result of her excellent guidance, I’ve had many guests call and email me since the wedding to tell me that it was the best wedding they had ever been to. Megan is very organized and detail-oriented, and I never had one moment of stress because I knew I could count on her to pull everything together. She helped me prioritize budget items to make sure we were able to achieve the vision I had of my wedding day without wasting money or blowing the budget. She was invaluable the weekend of the wedding. The best thing about Megan, though, is her ability to make you feel like you’re planning your wedding with an old friend. She is warm and friendly and so very easy to talk to, and always gives her honest opinion. I can’t imagine having done this wedding without her.”

Tip from the Top:
Megan stresses the importance of hiring someone with experience…

“I always tell my brides that we can certainly help them design a beautiful wedding, but if the logistics behind that wedding (room set-up, timeline of the evening, communication between vendors) are not there, then all the hard work put into the design will not matter.  That’s where the importance of hiring a wedding planner with experience becomes so vital.”
