Fall Back and Relax with a Hassle Free Good Time

Summer barbeques are winding down and the hectic holiday season is fast approaching.  The air is getting crisp and that makes it the perfect time to light a fire, warm up the oven and entertain family and friends before the rush of the holidays fills everyone’s schedule.

Fall gatherings are great indoors and out and MyGatsby has everything you need to plan one hassle free.  Start with a great invitation like the Fall Pumpkins Invitation.  Stick with the themes of the season and make pumpkin milkshakes for the kids by adding a little cinnamon, nutmeg and pumpkin puree to your favorite vanilla milkshake recipe.  For those with more mature tastes, add a little rum or invite guests to a wine tasting in the afternoon.

Fall Franca InvitationFollow the tasting with a “Dinner at Dusk”.  Weather permitting; make it one last use of your outdoor space for the year.  Take some pressed aspen leaves or some faux leaves and write guests names on them to use as place settings. Another great place setting idea is to have kids help cut pumpkins from orange card stock and use stickers, markers and other supplies to decorate them with guests’ names.  Apples in a large glass bowl or a jack-o-lantern with a candle inside both make for a great fall centerpiece.  Votive candles, acorns and fall harvest produce scattered about the table can add to the warm festive atmosphere.

After dinner, a marshmallow roast at an outdoor fire is a great way to wind down and prolong the good company. Telling spooky stories and reminiscing about years past make great conversation! And really, who doesn’t love making s’mores?

Steer your menu towards the harvest but don’t go overboard.  Serve dishes that will be popular with your guests and throw in a few fall elements.  Beets and apples can make for some great salads, and baked apples are delicious and can be seasoned a few different ways as a side dish or dessert. Squash soups and sweet potato bakes are also great ways to celebrate the season and take advantage of the fall produce at its peak of flavor.  Of course, don’t forget the desserts!  There are so many pie options this time of year along with candied apples, fresh popcorn and other fall favorites that it makes it hard to choose just one or two!

Falling Leaves InvitationHaving a fall baby shower? Try a Mommy’s Lil’ Pumpkin theme!   Start with a pumpkin themed invitation then go crazy with all things mini-pumpkin!  For centerpieces, try carving out pumpkins and using them as vases for flowers.  Mix some orange balloons and streamers in with light blue or pink ones.  Pumpkin garlands, plates, napkins and other decorations are available at your local party or craft store.  There are also plenty of pumpkin themed shower activities.  You can have a contest for decorating white onesies with pumpkin themed sayings and pictures or pass out orange note cards customized with mommy’s name or “Mommy’s Little Pumpkin” and have guests write something that their mothers did that made them feel special or some motherly advice for the expecting mommy.  Get creative and run with it!  Using fall pies instead of a cake is sure to be a crowd pleaser, or try using a spiced cake.

Football season is in full swing and many a weekend will be spent with guests in front of your TV.  Spread the word about your gatherings with a football party invitation.  Serve finger foods that you can keep coming even if the game goes into overtime.  Make as much as you can in advance so you get to enjoy the game. Use food coloring in cupcake icing so it matches your team’s colors.  Make sure to tease the one friend who is inevitably rooting for “the enemy” as he or she chows down.  Be sure to keep lots of cool drinks on hand as yelling at the TV can be thirsty work!  Hot cider is another great fall option.

Office potlucks abound this time of year.  Try planning one at your workplace.  Pass out fun, practical invitations in fall colors and include a panel where people can pledge to bring their favorite dish. Try using a panel as a raffle ticket for a gift card, basket of snacks or, if you have a really nice boss, a paid vacation day!

Fall offers so many great opportunities and excuses to gather with family and friends.  Keep it hassle free and enjoy all the season has to offer!
