Let’s be honest, every couple wants to save as much as they can on their honeymoon! Here we have numerous ideas on how you can get the most out of your honeymoon while cutting down on costs. If you missed Part I to our Honeymoon Budget Ideas, you can find it here: Honeymoon Budget Ideas – Part I
Use Mass Transit as Transportation
Unless you’re planning to rent a car during your honeymoon, using mass transit will be the best way to save on transportation costs. Cab rides are likely to put a huge dent in your wallet, as convenient as they are. Before you start traveling, research your destinations, activities, and restaurants so you can plan to use main modes of transportation in that area. This could be by metro, tram, or bus. And usually in congested cities, the metro and tram are the fastest ways to get around anyway.
Book a Room Without a View
Opting for a room without a view can save you big bucks. Depending on where you decide to have your honeymoon, you might not even notice having a room with no view if you’re out on the beach all day. Or at least constantly outside and exploring! Go on the hotel’s websites and check the room rates. Choose the one that’s best for you!
Throwing Out the “Newlyweds” Word
Mention to the receptionist that you’re newlyweds and excited to spend your first days of marriage together! That’s not to say that you will be guaranteed any extra accommodations… But rumors have shown that some couples have been given free room upgrades. Hotels are willing to give their guests the best customer service possible. So it’s worth a try!
Dine Outside of Your Hotel
Sure dining in the hotel can be convenient and hassle-free, but sometimes that can come at a costly price. Hotels usually mark up prices of their items, including food, like crazy. Maybe have a small breakfast in the hotel but choose other local and popular restaurants farther out for lunch and dinner. It’s fun to explore anyway. Go try something new!
Chat with Locals
The best way to find the greatest deals on food and drink is to talk to locals! They’ve lived here their entire lives and know a thing or two about the hot spots. Stop to chat with some friendly strangers and get their opinions on the best hole-in-the-wall. Chances are high that you will find these new restaurants to be delicious and not over priced!
Prepare Some Meals
Making your own food is cheaper, healthier, and does not have to lack in romance. Visit the local grocery store (again probably outside the hotel). Stock up on some wine, sandwich items, fruit, and other snacks, and take them with you to a private picnic. Find a secluded spot just for the two of you to spend some alone time together. You’ll save lots of money and be able to remember that moment forever.
