How To: DIY Stamped Napkins

diy custom stamped napkinIt’s the little details that will make your wedding day truly yours… and no detail is too little!  Customized cocktail napkins are a popular way to incorporate your names, initials, or wedding date into your reception decor.  Today we’re sharing how to personalize your beverage napkins with a handmade stamp.  This project is fairly simple and will allow you full creativity while adding just that extra little bit of charm to your wedding day!

Print your design sized appropriately for the napkin you intend to use.  You’ll need a linoleum block and carving tool, both available at most craft stores.

Trace directly over your design in pencil.  Turn your paper over onto the linoleum and gently scribble over the design area.  This will transfer your traced design onto the linoleum.

Cut away any excess from around your design and begin carving.  Using your smallest nib, outline your entire design.

Gradually increase nib sizes as you carve further away from your design.  You want to remove as much of the negative space as possible, as any areas left raised will show up in your final print.

Use an ink/paint that will not smudge when wet (you don’t want your design to bleed on guests).  Apply your paint with a sponge brush and then place where you wish to print.

Press firmly once you’ve set your stamp on your napkin and gently pull away to reveal your design.

Depending on the ink/paint used and time it takes to actually print each napkin, your results may vary a little bit.  I used acrylic paint, which dries quickly and holds up well during use.
