A Bird Themed Party

Birds are beautiful and graceful creatures.  It is no surprise they make for a gorgeous theme centerpiece for nearly any party. Birds can be used to theme a birthday party for a bird lover, a wedding ceremony and reception or even a graduation to symbolize the graduate taking flight into the world. Birds can be fairly easily worked into nearly any aspect of the party.  Here are some ideas to get the feather filled fun started.

Wedding Party Invitations & Stationery

Birds make a simple and pretty accent for party and wedding invitations. Use a bird themed save the date to announce the start of a new life as man and wife. A wedding invitation featuring love birds is a symbolic and simply beautiful touch.   A bright colorful invitation featuring a bird would be perfect for a spring party or a birthday celebration. Matching menu cards, favor tags and thank you cards  make it easy to coordinate all of the stationery for this bird themed bash.  Add a few feathers to any invitation for an extra special touch.

Décor

Bird themed décor does not need to be all feathers, nests and eggs everywhere, although it can be! A cracking bird egg with a baby bird peeking out makes a great centerpiece for a baby shower. A specific bird can be focused on as well. Flamingos and parrots would each make a great centerpiece for a summer bash, while Bald eagles make a great focal point for patriotic parties. A bird cage decorated with small birds from the craft store can be used to collect cards at a wedding.  The possibilities are only limited by the imagination. Cute saying like “Owl love you forever” and “(name) is leaving the nest” can help tie the theme together. Flowering branches will also fit a bird themed celebration well.

Food

Try using bird cake toppers and cupcake pictures.  Serve some “bird food” in the form of trail mix.  Use small bird baths as holders in the candy buffet.  The theme is light and airy so finger foods work well too.

Favors

For a bird themed baby shower try using egg times as favors. The boxes can be labeled with a cute saying like “About to Hatch”.  Birds can be found on bottle stoppers, candle holders and nearly any item you wish to use as a favor. Little nests filled with candy or birdcage candle holders also make cute mementos for gifts.

Try playing on things related to birds for the theme and not just the birds themselves.  Eggs can symbolize new life. Nests can symbolize a new house or someone ‘leaving the nest”.  Feathers are a fun item for decoration and use in favors.  The sky is the limit with this party theme so let your imagination take flight.
